My 10 items

Flower wrap dress

Black and pink dress

Green dress

Brown silk skirt

Black  skinny  jeans

Classic black trousers

Blue jeans

White silk shirt

Dark blue blouse

Cream cotton blouse

Blue cotton shirt

So this are my ten items.

I found very difficult to decide what to include, the weather is ever changing this days. For work sometimes I have to be very casual/ sporty if I am filming on location, so that items are in my extras.
The 10 items I have chosen are for casual but dress up every day wear.

The funny thing is that this is the way I grow up. I had a school uniform and then for sure less than 10 items that I use to wear on my days off.
It is easy to forget, which all the choice we have now.

Let see how it goes. I love how simple it will be to decide what to wear each day.

Now I have to decide what extras to have. I will tell you in a future post.

Dark blue dress

Well, I have decide to include this dress too in my now 11 items.
I normally have it in the extras for evening wear / formal  wear, but it is a simple and classic dress that I could wear a lot.
I love it! That is why I am scare to over use it and that it gets ruin. But the purpose of this challenge is to use the clothes your love every day and not for only especial occasion. So here it is.

Are up for this challenge ? Please join me and let me know.

About Capsule Wardrobe

PS: This is a pic of my mom. Looking fabulous as always.

Have you heard about Project 333 , or the 10 item wardrobe or how to build a capsule wardrobe?

OK, basically the idea is to reduce the amount of clothes you have in your wardrobe. That will make it easier to decide what to wear in the morning and to wear the things your love.

I have been reading this kind of blogs for a while and decide that I will give it a try.

The 10 item wardrobe is my favourite.
I like that is so simple. With 10 items you know that you will look good each day as every item is a precious one.

The biggest problem I have about having a capsule wardrobe in Norway is that sometime you have 4 seasons in one day, specially in spring- summer, so I have created my own one that give me more freedom mixing the ideas from all of them.

Choosing 10 items each season: Winter (Jan-March), Spring ( April-June), Summer (July- September), Fall (Oct- December).

I like to choose 10 items  ( trouser, skirt, blouse, dresses) that they are the main things in my closet. The rest its in the extras.
Your 10 items are the clothes that you will wear for work, going out for lunch, shopping , school run.
T-shirts, shoes, bags, coats, jumpers, jewelry, pyjamas, sport wear, cosy clothes, scarfs etc are extras, but ideally you want to cut back in the amount you use. So best to choose a few of them from each category and pack the rest.

So right now I am going throw my wardrobe and deciding my 10 items. The are the ones I love and I feel good about wearing them. Some dresses, some trousers and some blouses.

Then I choose my T-Shirts, from the extras.
Them my jumpers, cardigans, jackets, and coats. Cutting down on the amount as much as you feel comfortable.

Then the shoes.

Then the bags.

Then the rest.

Everything else that i don´t want I give to charity. Everything else in good condition I pack and put away for next season.

I may have to switch an item mid season if it get too warm, and if 10 items is too little 11, 12 is ok too.

And voila! I have a capsule wardrobe, with all my favourite clothes that I will wear everyday.

Would you care to join me in this adventure? Please, please say yes. It will be so much fun!

In the next post I will show you my 10 pieces.

New in my bathroom shelf: La Roche-Posay

Now that the weather has changed and it is warmer and sunnier I needed a lighter moisturiser for the day, and I am so happy about this one that I have to share with you.

I like that it is very light but that my skin feels moisturised for a long time, 24 hours it said.
That is anti UVA/UVB and SPF 20 and that it doesn´t have parabens. But what I like best is that my skin feels so soft all day long. Like a baby´s bottom! I can´t stop touching my face so I will have to step up my hand cleaning, or I will finish with my face full of pimples!

I got the deodorant too as I was looking for one without Aluminium Salts.
As a bonus this one is for sensitive skin ( good for summer when I shave more often) and without alcohol and parabens.

Yes, very happy indeed.

Have you used La Roche-Posay? I have heard really good things about this brand but until now I haven´t use it. What do you recommend?

About fashion

Moving countries, living in three different ones and travelling a lot had teach me that everything in life is temporary and I try not to get attached to things.

It is good to appreciate what you have when you have it. Things come and go. You must know that you really need so little to be happy.

Your attitude and been comfortable in your own skin is worth more that any peace of clothing.

PS: This picture from the lovely Hanneli is from an old photo shoot I did with photographer Isabel Watson

Things that make me happy: Books

I have said before and I will say it a thousand times. I love books. Nothing better than reading.

In the morning in bed while I drink my coffee and I get ready for a new day. On the tube or train on my way to work. On any break I have. Outside in the garden with a cup of tea. In the terrace while I watch my children play. In bed before sleeping. In the beach. In the plane. At the doctor´s office. In the park. At work. In a cafe. You get the picture... I am crazy about books.

I have always loved reading.
I remember been  very young and reading all my father´s veterinary books from his work and all the books from the Acta 2000 ( an encyclopedia we had in the leaving room) before I discovered novels.
I still like to read all sorts of different books.

Do you enjoy reading? Do you have a book that you recommend ? What is your favourite book?

New in my closet: Kimono

As you already know I am trying to buy as little as possible and to use more what I already own. So if I buy something I want it to be something that really make me happy and that I can use a lot. Something that I can mix well with the clothes in my wardrobe and that it bring a spark to it.

I have been looking for a kimono for a long time and finally I got it. I am so happy with it.

I shopped it at this little shop in Sandvika shopping-centre.

It is perfect for making a simple black jeans and top look special. To wear it with shorts in the spring and in the beach in the summer.
I think you will see me with it a lot from now on.

What do you think? Do you like it?

Letting go of illusions

The girl was at work when one of her coworkers said something demeaning about her work, and she immediately got upset, felt defensive, and thought all day about how the coworker was wrong and how she could prove it to him.

At home, her boyfriend left his dirty dishes in the sink and the trash was overflowing and she felt irritated by his lack of consideration. She thought about how wrong he was, and why couldn’t he just do these little things to be more considerate?

As she was stewing in her anger over these two people who had wronged her … she wondered what was going on. Why did she have to be so frustrated, angry, irritated, by these little comments and actions?

The next day, she went to work, and noticed other people also frustrated and stressed out and angry at different times in the day. She saw it in the faces of strangers on the street, then in the complaints of her friends when they went out for a bite to eat after work.

What was going on?

Then she began to see something strange.
What she saw was this: each person had a treasure they were protecting. A beautiful gem that no one else could see, but that they felt was really valuable and that needed guarding.

An Inner Gem.

When one person would interact with the other, even if the actions or conversations had nothing to do with the Inner Gem … each person would worry that the other was trying to attack their Inner Gem. Everything became about guarding the gem, protecting it from attack, making sure it was safe.

The girl realised that the gems didn’t really exist. She realised that we just imagine them to be real, and don’t realise we’re doing it.

She realised that it’s all an illusion.

And it’s making us unhappy.

So that day, she stopped trying to protect an imaginary gem. She stopped trying to be right, to be seen as good and competent and smart and perfect, to see herself as a good person at all times. She stopped thinking that other people’s words and actions had anything to do with what she imagined herself to be. She stopped trying to protect her position and self-image.

And, gently letting go of these illusions, she became happier. She would smile when someone else would start protecting their imaginary gem, and realise that their frustration or rudeness had nothing to do with her, but everything to do with the gem they were protecting. She would go about her day, enjoying herself, and trying to make the world a better place.

Thinks that make me happy: Sunsets

I love sunsets.
It is something really special about them.
They makes me feel small. They make me think in the moment. They make me dream about possibilities . They make me feel alive. They make me happy. They make me feel thankful.

Aren´t they wonderful...?

Pinterest

I love Pinterest! But I find it very addictive so I try not to get carried away with it and use it only when I need it.

Something that I like to do at Pinterest is to use it as, what to wear.

I have a board with lots of looks from many people with outfits of clothes that I already have in my wardrobe and I can recreate. Like that if one day I don´t know what to wear and I need a bit of inspiration I can open Pinterest on my phone and have a look at my looks.

It is amazing the amount of looks I can wear with my simple wardrobe.

How do you use Pinterest? Do you like it? I like to use it more as a personal mood board. I don´t use it to connect with people. What about you?

About children decorating

Two days ago, my son Ebbe and his friend Daniel found in Thea´s room her nail polishes and decided to pain themselves and to decorate the room.

I was a bit angry as you can imaging but Ebbe was saying, -But mammy, we painted nice things too, like the sun...

With an answer like that I realised that they just got a bit carried away trying to decorate Thea´s room.

At the end of the day it could have been so much worse. Luckily it was only in the floor and what you see in the pictures.
I am most upset about the pillow case that they were old English and really especial.

Share with me some similar thing your children have done to make me feel better...

Today

At Easter´s time one of my favourite things to do, if I have a bit of time, is to read a book.
I love, love, love reading. It is my favourite hobby. So a big part of a good holiday will be to have time to read.
I normally read novels, one after another one. Sometime I have a couple at the same time. Maybe one for bed time and the other for the journey to work.

What about you? Are you reading anything good at the moment?

This is what I am wearing today. I very relax look for a day off with the kids. You can never go wrong with a stripes top and jeans.
